Bernie. You hardly hear about Spurs debt because unlike Barcelona and Juventus they are always picking up the Premiership purse and are quite content too service the debt at a snail’s pace and at a low rate of interest. And it helps not spunking wedge left. Right and centre. On the squad every transfer window.

Still it’s a club of cunts. Owned by cunts. Run by cunts. And followed by cunts.!

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
The advent of Sky and the Premier league has tightened the grip of the 'big clubs', plus the money put in by foreign ownership that has seen Chelsea and Man City join the party. Athough it remains to be seen but Newcastle are likely to join them as well. Everton have dropped out because of poor management, not particularly through lack of spending as they seem to have wasted a fortune (sounds familiar). In some ways every club outside of the top 6 have about a decade in the Premiership at best, then something goes wrong, manager leaves (or loses the plot), key players get injured etc. Even clubs that have the model of developing young players, sell them on for a huge profit, and buy cheaper players, develop them etc eventually ends in tears. It did with Southampton, Leicester (but at least the got a Prem title and FA cup) and it will with Brighton and Brentford. I would bet that both Brighton and Brentford will be relegated within 10 years.

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Daniel Levy is the absolute master at polishing a turd, the 'big 6' doesn't exist its a 'big 5'.

They also have an extraordinary amount of debt, 2nd only to Barcelona in world football (might be 3rd behind Juve) but doesn't ever seem to get mentioned.

Our revenues are improving, largely due to European football which its why its so important to maintain it if we can. Our debt is also gone

But we'll never be able to reach the heights of where we want to be whilst Sullivan is still here, the PL is too big for him and he just won't set the club up in a way that he needs to for it to succeed. He wants too much power and control and he is so out of his depth its laughable, An egomaniac billionaire playing his version of Championship Manager

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
67, in the EPL era seven clubs have won the title. Four of the clubs are multiple winners, ManU, Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea with three one offs to date being Blackburn, Leicester and Liverpool.

ManU having won thirteen titles dwarf the achievements of any other clubs with their nearest rivals being ManCity with six titles. So for much of the time the EPL has been a big four, two Manchesters and two Londoners and certainly not Spurs.

Looking back at the old English first division winners over the thirty seasons prior to the EPL being formed the names and frequencies are familiar but differ from the EPL period.

Eight clubs won the title with Liverpool winning thirteen times, Everton four, Leeds three and ManU/Arsenal/Derby with two apiece. The three one offs were Man City, Notts Forest and Aston Villa.

Comparing these two eras Liverpool dominance has been replaced by ManU, Everton have slipped off the radar to be replaced by Chelsea. ManCity too have become prominent. Leeds are nowhere to be seen and god knows why Spurs are thought of as a big club because in terms of league titles they’ve not had a sniff in sixty years and are behind the likes of Derby, Forest, AV, Blackburn and Leicester.

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again

The only way to break in/compete with those clubs on a consistent basis is to have mega rich owners like Chelsea & Man City.”

The other way is to just be successful on the pitch and play attractive football.
Spurs didn’t really spend big to get into the CL with Redknapp. Son wasn’t a superstar when they got him and Kane is homegrown. Not that different to where we are/were really.

We had the opportunity as a club to change our history by buying an extra striker last Jan and winning the europa or getting 6th place and competing again. We could have even made 4th at some points.

The club is short sighted. You can’t just have money to compete, you must get the right coaches. And must also be prepared to get the next coach, and the next player. Resting out laurels is what has got us here.

And btw, we are the 5th biggest spending club apparently. So no reason why Richardson etc wouldn’t come here.

Also, if I’m hearing correctly, we’ve had relegation clauses put in all our recent deals. Which may explain why some of our targets didn’t want to come here… I dunno?

Think when the PL was formed just before 92 the 'big 5' involved in that were Man Utd/Liverpool/Tottenham/Arsenal/Everton

Westham67 10:29 Mon Mar 20
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
The pre PL big 6 were based on ground capacity and gate money which was the main source of income for a club

A long time ago so correct me if I am wrong. Liverpool, Villa , Everton, Man U, Spurs and Arsenal

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
i think there are good points all over here. I think you have to spend consistently and on the right players to stand still let alone move forward in this league.

We are bad on both fronts. Yes we net spent a lot on players last summer but evidently not very well. Our recruitment is strange, not sure who is really recommending and approving signings and it smells like Sullivan taking punts on players of his choosing with Moyes as a 'Yes Man' being told whos coming in and 'make it work' and time and again it has failed under Sullivan. He's like a short order cook barely used to flipping burgers and suddenly being given fillet steak to work with.

Until we get the stewardship right we will ultimately struggle and sooner or later fail.

Eeyore,

coming from the dumb fuck that believes without the mega money we will be challenging the big clubs every season.

As I said in my previous post let’s see who is right over the next 3 or 4 years.

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
If you read what I typed originally, and consider FFP, you'll be able to connect the dots.

No one is saying we WILL do it. But it's a lot more possible now with those restrictions, and our turnover. You'll notice that Newcastle haven't gone balls in, even though they're the richest club in the world. They're doing it on a slow burn, with football experts behind the scenes.

You really are not very bright, Swindon.

Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Eerie,

you answer my question first about why in the past 20 years Man City & Chelsea are the only clubs able to consistently challenge the “Big teams” at the top?

Side of Ham 7:39 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Their top player is Kane, the next is Son who wasn’t bought as a top player…..the rest…well…very decent yes….but Kane or Son possibly Loris….are the only ones the top clubs will want….we could get to their buying clout quite easily with owners with a bit of nouse…..

Eerie Descent 7:34 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Swindon, what's your take on FFP?

swindon hammer 7:34 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Side,

you can talk about infrastructure as much as you want and that is very important but the facts speak for themselves, Tottenham & Arsenal are both historically big clubs that are known the world over so even when they aren’t having good seasons or don’t play in the champions league they will still be able to attract top players.

This summer is a perfect example of that with Richarlison & Jesus. They would never have considered us.

Both those clubs owners have had issues with their own fans with how they are being run so we are not the only ones but they have stayed in the big 6 due to their name value as much as anything else.

If you want to be immature and say stupid things like I secretly support them because I along with 99 percent of the rest of the world think they are bigger and more glamorous than us then go for it.

At the end of the day both you & Eeyore seem to think that when we have new owners we will magically be competing with the big 6 on a consistent basis.

I say that will only happen if we get mega rich owners like Man City, Chelsea & Newcastle.

Let’s see who’s right in the future. I hope I am wrong but I doubt it.

Side of Ham 7:08 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
I know Eerie, I just hope it’s because Swindon doesn’t quite get how London works, in our case when you expect to get 60,000+ attendances you are majorly announcing you are going big on your ideas and ambitions. Our ‘owner’ doesn’t know how to complete this task on the football side which is pretty critical when wanting to own & run a PL football club expecting to get those crowds.

swindon hammer 7:05 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Eeyore,

If our new owners in the near future are not mega rich you are going have a big shock when we don’t challenge the big 6 on a consistent basis.

you haven’t answered my earlier question.

Why in the past 20 years have only Man City & Chelsea been able to consistently challenge the historically big clubs?

Eerie Descent 6:59 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
You're expecting miracles if you think Swindon is going to be able to fully understand what has been written.

Side of Ham 6:54 Sun Mar 19
Re: Excellent work by Conte - Spurs you did it again
Swindon, read what is being suggested we have owners with funds that don’t need to sell on so many like Brighton have to. We have an infrastructure that can see West Ham scout & attract decent footballers. If this happened and we had a squad with ambition that we could offer the hope of achievement that Spurs (somehow do) & Arsenal then we could look to attract already at their peak top players, to keep it competitive and not sink like you think Brighton will.

It was suggested on here earlier about there being Spurs residents on here and you almost to a religious belief come across as one of these posters….you continually down play West Ham’s potential…..didn’t Glenn HODDLE have close ties to Swindon? …. :-)
